Sarah Velasco: What is your story?
David Lurie: In 2008, a man knocked on the door at Seth Ellis Chocolates with a jar of sunflower butter and a challenge: create a candy cup his peanut-allergic son could eat. The chocolatiers got to work, inspired by the idea of a peanut butter cup for everyone. A jar of sunflower butter, a handful of test batches and a day later, they had cracked the code. Sun Cups were born.
Being a peanut butter cup for everyone is no small task. It calls for unseen levels of nut-free, gluten-free, Certified Kosher deliciousness. And being the overachievers they are, the chocolatiers also made their creation all natural, using cacao from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms. That means the chocolate in Sun Cups  comes from farms that look out for their workers and the planet. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Milk Chocolate  and Dark Chocolate Sun Cups  debuted in 2009. And in 2011, we added Milk Chocolate Caramel Cups  and Dark Chocolate Mint Cups  to the lineup to spread the love to even more dessert-earners worldwide.
Today, our Boulder chocolate factory is buzzing around the clock churning out chocolate safe for nut, tree nut, gluten, corn, coconut, sesame allergies. Today Sun cups are also Non-GMO Project verified.

Sarah Velasco: What is the vision behind the brand?

David Lurie: In five years, we will be the dominant confection manufacturer in North America that produces awesome tasting candies that address the top ten food allergies.

Sarah Velasco: How are Sun Cups different from other kinds of buttercups?

David Lurie: Dark & Milk Sun Cups are made with Roasted Sunflower seed butter.

Sarah Velasco: What is the shelf life for Sun Cups?
David Lurie: Milk & Dark Sun Cups 12 months from date of Manufacturing
Mint Cups & Caramel Cups 6 months from date of Manufacturing

Sarah Velasco: Where can readers find these products?
David Lurie: Our product is in retailer store across the country and also sold on our website.

Sun Cups are nut- and gluten-free “peanut butter” cups that are absolutely delicious! Not only are they delicious, but they are made with ingredients you can trust. You can easily identify all of the ingredients because they are REAL. Plus, Sun Cups keeps it simple with just a few sourced ingredients. Aside from being gluten-free they are also Non-GMO Project Verified.

Dark Chocolate Cups  - Amazing! When you unwrap the packaging you notice that these are solid. A treat to bite into, Sun Cups are filled with a smooth and creamy sunflower seed feeling that is better than any peanut butter we have come across. The mild flavor of the sunflower seeds goes well with the rich cocoa notes of dark chocolate.

Dark Chocolate Mint Cups  - A delicious treat, these mint cups have a wonderfully blended center packed with a peppermint punch. Another great and unique feature about these are that the flavors are blended into the sunflower seed butter center.

Milk Chocolate Caramel Cups  - The perfect blend of sweet milk chocolate and a rich caramel/ sunflower seed butter center. The cream is amazing with a salty note that one looks in for a caramel product.

Milk Chocolate Cup  - This milk chocolate cup has the same delicious milk chocolate as the caramel cups. Instead of caramel, these have a plain sunflower seed butter center. There is a hint of salt, which adds a nice touch to the flavor. The salty contrast to the sweetness, plus the super creamy texture makes a nice treat!

We highly recommend Sun Cups, they make such a delicious treat!
